The Young House

The Young House was built in 1893 by some people who ran a lumber mill in Elkland. It was probably used by other people before it was later bought by Dr. Harry Williams, formerly of Nanticoke, who practiced there for many years. He graduated from Bucknell, Jefferson Medical College and his internship was at the Robert Packer Hospital. In 1944 he was elected Coroner of Tioga County and retained that office for some years...

The house probably had other owners after him, but it is now now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Georgia Young. Georgia is the daughter of Shirley Carbone, owner of the Carbone house. They have done extensive work here, especially with the floors. They are hardwood and with beautiful designs. The old parlor had a green furniture outfit that they moved into the dining room, the dining room they moved into the old parlor. The kitchen is large and spacious and the large amount of cupboard space was probably added in the 1950's. The living room hosts a beautifully carved fireplace. The doctors office was in what is now a conservatory or nook, and the waiting room was what is now the front foyer. The front foyer has a silver ceiling that enhances the uniqueness of the home.
