The Shirley Brothers built the American Hotel in 1885. They ran it until 1887 when the Beach Brothers succeeded them. They were followed by Lucius Inscho. In 1894, he sold the building to Asa Hill and John Rohrback. mr. Hill soon bought out Mr. Rohrback's interest. The building was thoroughly repaired and improved while under the ownership of Mr. Hill. It became the New American House while under the ownership of Burt Gee. In 1919, it was converted into a garage by Jesse and Grace Matteson. Mattesons later remodeled and put in a restaurant. It was then owned by the Asbells, Wakelys, Saffords, and Paddocks, and is known as the Colonial Hotel. It was owned by Mrs. Ann Cooper, but currently I am unaware of the owner.
